How to Learn Physics Effectively to Excel in Exams

Having taught upper sec math and science subjects for many years, we've witnessed firsthand the challenges students face when learning these subjects and we've found that traditional textbook methods alone aren't enough. As a parent, you want the best for your child, including a solid foundation in Physics. In this article, we'll explore the method we use to make Physics engaging and accessible for students, which may help you to better understand how to assist your child's learning.
For example:
Motion:
Student should understand acceleration in a car
At Sigma Inspiration Tuition Centre, we break down complex topics like acceleration into relatable examples. For instance, the car is accelerating while making a turn even speed remains constant, that’s why they would feel being swing to opposite direction of the turn. Resulting in a centripetal force that pushes the car towards the curve. Passengers experience a centrifugal force, feeling pulled to the opposite side of the turn.
By understanding the relationship between force, mass, and acceleration (Force = mass * acceleration), students can better comprehend the forces at play in various scenarios.
Thermal Physics:
Student should understand convection.
For example, we teach students about convection by using the air conditioning system in a room. When the air conditioner is installed on top of the room, the hot air rises due to its lower density. The colder air from the air conditioner has higher density, sinks to the bottom of the room. This creates a convection current that effectively cools the room.

By understanding convection, students can appreciate how heat is transferred in various environments, from the atmosphere to everyday appliances.
Waves: Exploring Light and Sound
Waves, both light and sound, are essential topics in physics. Our approach involves using visual aids and practical demonstrations to help students grasp these concepts.
Light:
Students should understand short sightness and long sightness
We explain short sightedness and long sightedness using diagrams of the eye and lenses. Students learn how diverging lenses can correct short sightness by forming images on the retina, while converging lenses can address long sightness by focusing images onto the retina.
Sound:
We explore the concept of echolocation, used by animals like bats and dolphins to detect environment using echo. Students learn how these creatures emit sound waves and use the echoes to determine the location of objects. Also, we explain how tuning forks produce specific frequencies of vibration when striked, corresponding to different specific musical notes.
There are countless fascinating real-world applications of Physics that we can't cover in this article. We believe that effective Physics education combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience. By using relatable examples, visual aids and hands-on activities, we help students develop a deep understanding of Physics concepts. Our lesson goal is not only to prepare your child for the IGCSE exam but also to show them how Physics plays a role in the world around us.
